This site is information, not advice
The guides on this site explain how applying for probate works in England and Wales in general terms. They cannot take account of your circumstances, the contents of a particular will, or the facts of a particular estate, and they are not a recommendation about what you should do.
If you need someone to tell you what to do about a specific estate, that is legal advice and you should speak to a solicitor. That is especially true if the estate involves trusts, business or agricultural property, assets or a domicile outside the UK, gifts the person continued to benefit from, or any disagreement between the people involved.
You are the applicant
CalmProbate is designed as a self-help tool. When the tool is available, it will help you complete your own forms from information you provide. You will review the application, you will sign it, and you will submit it to HM Courts & Tribunals Service in your own name. We do not prepare probate papers on anyone's behalf, and we do not submit applications for anyone.
Accuracy of information
We take accuracy seriously. Every figure and deadline on this site is taken from a primary source published by GOV.UK, HM Revenue & Customs, HM Courts & Tribunals Service or legislation.gov.uk, and we publish the source and the date we last checked it on our sources page.
Even so, rules, thresholds, fees and forms change, and the rules that apply to an estate are generally those in force at the date of death rather than today. We do not warrant that everything here is current or complete at the moment you read it, and you should check GOV.UK for the current position before you act. If you find something on this site that no longer matches the official position, please tell us at hello@calmprobate.co.uk and we will correct it.
Calculations
Where the CalmProbate tool performs any calculation, it does so on the figures you enter. We do not verify the values you provide, and the result depends entirely on them being right. We do not promise that any application will be accepted, and we do not promise any particular outcome.
Jurisdiction
This site covers probate in England and Wales only. Scotland uses a different process (confirmation) and Northern Ireland has its own separate rules and forms. If the person who died lived in Scotland or Northern Ireland, the guidance here does not apply to you.
